The organisation:

Our client is a company specialized in metocean consultancy and weather forecasting. They help their clients elevate their operational efficiency and calculate the weather risk on marine operations. Weather and wave information is crucial for people working at sea. They facilitates in this need by providing customers with both past conditions (climate) and future conditions (weather & wave forecasting). Our client uses a suite of proprietary software applications and applies certified analysis techniques on validated data from numerical model hindcasts and measured datasets.

They are expanding their business and are looking for a Senior Systems Engineer to strengthen a small multi-disciplinary team of product developers, system administrators and numerical modelers. You will report directly to the head of DevOps.

Position:

Your main responsibility will include, but is not limited to, the following tasks:

* Providing systems engineering support to maintain and expand a 24/7 high availability Linux based operational environment

* Designing, maintaining and expanding a network environment that spans multiple sites

* Installing, supporting, and maintaining server hardware and software infrastructure, including web servers

* Managing email, anti-spam and virus protection

* Maintaining a Windows based office environment, including the deployment and maintenance of Windows desktops and laptops

* Ensuring that all IT equipment complies with industry and Information Assurance standards

* Suggesting and implementing IT solutions to business and management problems

* Building, configuring and deploying Virtual Machines

* Enforcing and expanding IT operational procedures and policies

* Working closely with other departments and training other IT staff

Requirements:

* A minimum of 5 years of experience working as a System Engineer or System Administrator

* Excellent Linux administration skills

* Proven network administration experience; this includes interoffice networking (i.e. site to site VPN connections)

* Detailed knowledge of routing, switching and firewall technologies

* Knowledge of mail server administration (Postfix, IMAP, Exchange)

* Knowledge of LDAP server configuration

* Basic knowledge of Active Directory and Windows domains

* Good communication skills in Dutch and English, both oral and written

* Being able to work independently and take initiative, but knowing when to ask for support

Preferred skills

Not required skills, but would be beneficial to have:

* Detailed knowledge of Cisco switches and ASA devices

* Experience with High Performance Computing (HPC) and high availability environments

* Knowledge of back-up and data replication strategies

* Experience with virtualization and provisioning techniques (i.e. Vagrant/Ansible/Docker/VMWare)

* Practical experience with DevOps practices
